A new Tesco Express store opening in Horsham has received over 200 applications for 11 new jobs.

Tesco interviewed and recruited staff from the local area to work in the new store being established in a disused pub in Brighton Road, Horsham, to bring a community feel to the outlet, the company said.

Store manager, Phil Smallwood, and his team promoted the new jobs through the Job Centre Plus and conducted 37 interviews - with positive results which led to all vacancies being filled by local people.

Mr Smallwood said: “The response to our recruitment process has been fantastic! As a store we are delighted to be creating additional jobs for our local community and for local people, helping them back into employment.

“I am thrilled with the new team and I am confident that we will provide the best possible service to our customers. We are delighted to be opening a Tesco Express store on Brighton Road, Horsham and look forward to playing an active role in the local community.”

Store opening hours will be seven days a week from 6am until 11pm, and for added convenience the store will have a free cash machine, self-service tills, mobile phone top-up facility, National Lottery counter, bakery, beers, wines and spirits. Parking is also available to customers in front of the store.
