Retractable roof at The Lido ‘excites’ councillors
The decision allows the venue to apply for Coastal Community Funding for the project, which would see a £1.5 million retractable roof fitted to the listed building.
If successful, the roof could be in place as early as autumn this year.

Hide AdCouncillor Christine Brown said: “I think this is one of the most exciting things to happen to Worthing Seafront in a long time, I do hope it comes off.
“I think it will help the structure of the Lido, it will open it up to parties and weddings, I think the possibilities are endless.”
Councillor Hazel Thorpe added: “I’m excited too. It’s brilliant, let’s hope we get all the nuts and bolts in place.”
The Lido’s management were in attendance at last Wednesday’s meeting to see their proposal receive the green light.

Hide AdPhilippa Bradbury, marketing and PR manager for The Lido, said: “I’m delighted, it was nice to see the enthusiasm from all of the councillors.
“We were commended for getting it done so quickly so it was nice to be recognised. We worked very hard and had a lot of support.”
She said work was already underway on the proposal for Coastal Community Funding.
The addition of a retractable roof at the site would create between 30-50 new jobs, according to the venue’s owner.
Despite comments on social media sites questioning the roof, no-one turned up to speak against it at the meeting.
