MANDY Hawkins asked why she can't get a job in Worthing.
I moved to Worthing two-and-a-half years ago from Surrey, leaving a job I had held for four- and-a-half years.
At the time I was 59 but still wanted to keep working.
(I must admit at the time of securing my job in Surrey at the age of 55 I ha
d the pick of a number of posts).
I was experienced in administration and customer service disciplines and fully computer literate.
However, despite being more than adequately qualified for jobs I applied for in and around Worthing, it took me seven months to secure a position.
I was fortunate to get a full-time post within the NHS, which I can honestly say is NOT ageist.
It does value your past experience when considering candidates for the role applied for.
Unfortunately, you cannot prove that potential employers are ageist, unless they are up front about it, which of course they cannot do.
Even if you leave your age off a CV, they only have to look at your work history and your schooling period to find out how old you are.
All I can suggest is do not give up, keep trying.
