MR Whiting (letters last week) makes some valid points in his reply to my previous rant and provides another example, if needed, of the lack of consideration these days by others not only confined to the Queen's Highway.
There was, indeed, less traffic around when I was taught to drive by a national driving school in a Mk1 Cortina, which was a modern and efficient car in those days.
The routes used were determined by the instructor, as presumably is the case now
for both car and HGV learners, to simulate the conditions likely to be met in the future.
My question is why is Worthing so popular for HGV training?
There are at least five different organisations who bring their drivers to the town, some from as far as Brighton and Crawley.
Are there particular features here which provide essential elements for the training of our budding knights of the road?
Is there an undiscovered gem of a greasy spoon café somewhere?
Maybe it's the friendly banter with other drivers trying to get to their destinations as they crawl along the A27 or down the A24! Perhaps other town councils discourage them.
