THE point of parent bays at supermarket car parks is not necessarily the matter of distance to the shop, it's how much space is at the side to open doors and let children out, holding onto the trolley with your foot so it doesn't roll away while you are fiddling with the seat belts on children seats.
Once the children are safe in the trolley, or holding their parents' hand, distance is not a problem. I am sure that disabled people also need more space at the side or their cars.

What I really object to is people with children's seats in their car (but no children) or people with disabled badges (but no disabled people), using their spaces
