I WAS about to write a letter to the Herald about the shocking state of the Broadwater Road, which is a mass of weeds, when I read your correspondent's excellent letter headed, "Doesn't anyone do weeding any more?"
From my research, I think the answer is "no".

The local authority is responsible for street cleaning, which does not include the removal of weeds.

The highway authority will see to plants if they are a danger to the public.

Weeds are no
t.

Worthing spends thousands on attractive flower baskets but allows weeds, including plants like buddleia to grow, including in the pavements.

It is no good sending round someone with bulk weed killer, the weeds have to be dug out.

What are needed are teams of proper street cleaners armed with hoes who will tackle this menace.
